Life is Strange: Before the Storm by Deck Nine
Genre: Action | Adventure
Release Date: 31st August 2017
Gifted to me on Steam

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a new three part standalone story adventure set three years before the events of the first game. This time play as Chloe Price, a rebel who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber in a dramatic new story in the BAFTA award winning franchise.

I was thrilled when my friend gifted me this game for my birthday. I didn’t wait long until I started playing.

Being back in Arcadia Bay and seeing Chloe again was great.
Look at that cheeky smile!

Its definitely an adjustment to hear a new voice actor be Chloe. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it if I’m honest. But at least they’re not terrible. It is fine.

I really enjoyed seeing Arcadia Bay from Chloe’s point of view and to see how much she struggles with her relationship with her mum and her new boyfriend after her dads passing.

An odd element I found was that as we know how Chloe is in Life in Strange I felt conflicted with some of the choices we get to make as we know she’s not on good terms with anyone and still struggling with things so I didn’t particularly like make her do anything too out of character (the nicer and calmer options) as it didn’t feel true to the Chloe we know.
Obviously the bit people are here for is to hear about Rachel. Rachel steals Chloe away from school one day after a night out partying together. If you refer back to my review of Life is Strange you’ll see I never saw Chloe as a romantic option for Max. This is because I knew Chloe and Rachel were the real deal. You can see that grow really nicely in episode 1 and see why she captures Chloe’s attention.

Another important aspect is that even before Rachel comes along its clear that Chloe is already questioning her sexuality, I really loved this little snipped in her diary.
I practically screamed at this.I also really like the overall aesthetics of episode one as they fit Chloe well. So here, enjoy some of the screenshots I took.

Lastly, if you’ve read any of my video game reviews before you know that I’m a bit of an achievement hunter so one aspect I do like about the Life is Strange games is that to get the achievements all you have to do is complete an action – in this game its to graffiti as tagging things in Chloe’s go to art form.Below are some of them from episode one:

I’ll keep playing this game and hopefully check back in after each episode with my thoughts on them.

I highly recommend playing this game

The elf girl is my DnD character which my lovely friend Jenny drew.

  1. I love Life is Strange! But I had t only watch a gameplay since at the time I nly had my laptop. My old but incrediblt still living laptop. Right now I watched the first episode of the sequel/prequel with the gampley and no commentary on youtube. Gonna purchase them both and play my own version as soon as I will get my desktop pc

  2. I purchased Life Is Strange last August for my birthday, but pushed it to the side to play Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeros and some other games. I think I was so excited for these that I wanted to get to them first, but it’s most likely due to the fact that I watched some Gameplay of LIS ages ago on Youtube. The biggest mistake, since it felt like I’ve already played the game when I haven’t, and I’m not big on re-plays unless is Metal Gear lol. This post is really making me want to finally get to it though. I don’t know everything that happens, so once I get past the parts I’ve already seen, I think I’ll be okay!

  3. I’m not into video games (my short attention span is to blame 😂) but this game is just gorgeousss. The graphics and colour scheme is so beautiful I would stare at it all day. I am such a nerd for these things!!
