I’m creating this post to give an updated overview of what my book club – Books and Tea – has to offer. This’ll also indicate the full years read-along themes and any changes we’ve made since I last made this post in 2018.Anyone who is 18 or older is welcome to join, just click here.
The main type of event we do are read-alongs with a few read-a-thons dotted throughout the year, and then during Summer and December we do a Secret Santa Book Exchange. We have also just started out 2019 Travelling Book Project; 1 UK and 1 US group.
A read-along is where a group of people all read the same book at the same time. And we host at least one a month, with nominations and voting from you guys to ensure something popular is selected.
A read-a-thon is where during a set time you aim to read as much as you personally can. There will often be little tasks to do during the time too.

So it might seem overwhelming to see a long list but Discord added the update for channel categories making it a lot easier to organise and allows for members to bulk mute areas they have no interest in as we do accommodate a lot of topics.
I’ll give a brief run down of each area to help introduce you to the place and also point out anything that you might not initially see!
RULES & INFO
Most of the channels in this category regular members can’t talk in. This is the area to visit for important information and guidance around the server. The two members can talk in are #introductions and #suggestions.
GENERAL
The first category that members can make full use of is where the general every day talk happens, and one channel dedicated to video games! Here there are three general channels where members can talk about anything they wish, books included, and get to know each other. Everyone is a friendly bunch, we work hard to keep it this way.
BOOK NOOK
This category is the place to be to have more specific themed bookish conversations, which is handy if #general is a busy place! You can find channels dedicated to books, graphic novels, LGBT+ books, nonfiction, classics, and adaptations. As well as somewhere to discuss spoilers (feel free to mute to avoid them + you have the ability to delete messages here to clean up after yourselves!), ask for recommendations, and to share any bookish news you see on the web.
READ-ALONGS
Here we have a channels for each winning read-along book/s and a channel to nominate books for each months read-along theme – where at the end a poll is shared too. Each dedicated read-along channel is locked behind a role at the start of the month its for, this is to allow safe browsing for those not taking part in the read-along! You can easily join these by visiting a #roles channel in the RULES & INFO category, or speaking to a staff member.
EXCHANGES
This category wont open up to members till they’ve been around for a while. This is to try and help limit the amount of people who’d consider trying to join up for a Secret Santa exchange just to run off with a free book. We also organise the travelling book projects and tea pals here.
SPOOKS AND TEA
This area is dedicated to our Horror Read-a-thon in October. We keep one of the channels visible all year for members to drop horror recommendations ready for our yearly master post of what we recommend. On the lead up to the even the other channels will open which I talked about last year right here; they include challenges and photo fun!
LIT FANDOMS
As we have so many members a few fandoms pop up often so to allow for a space for those members to discuss their loved series/authors as often and as much as they want we have hidden channels for them. Current authors are Leigh Bardugo, Holly Black, Stephen King, Sarah J Maas, George R.R. Martin, Naomi Novik, Harry Potter, Terry Pratchett, Brandon Sanderson, V.E. Schwab, Maggie Stiefvater, and Tiana Warner!
CONTENT SHARE
I’m all for supporting our community so I have dedicated channels for members to share their blogs, vlogs, sheflies, creativities, bullet journals, and pets (which can be posted to our designated pet twitter)!
BLOGGER HUB
As I mentioned in February’s Read-along post we have a Blogger area but it has now been expanded into its own server. This part will eventually disappear to utilise Blogs and Tea better. A full post, like this one, is on its way to tell you more about it!
WRITING CAFE
A lot of readers are also writers so we do have a space for members to discuss their projects in more detail and a writing prompt channel.
You see what is relevant to you. If you want to sign up for a read-along, sweet just ask and we’ll add you into the role (or you can read the #welcome or #roles to see how you can add yourself in).

The roles you can join yourself look a little something like this:
Fandom Roles are likely to change throughout the year as we create them once we see a lot of members discussing a book or author to help provide them with a space they can talk in depth about the fandom without it monopolozing #general for those who do not care for them.

This is sooo interesting! I think this is really good way of working on your reading habit. 👏👏👏
yes it really is, we have a lot of members who join saying they’re not really much of a reader but they want too ..and then a few months passes and they’re like the biggest book worms ever. its lovely
I’m so glad I randomly googled “Book-themed discord channels” one day and stumbled upon you guys. It’s such a friendly and wonderful community to be a part of!
Clicked on this today, only to realize even though I read it…I forgot to comment. In my defense I was joining the blogsandtea server X’D ….I feel like I’m just gonna be joining everything you ever blog about, lol Your Blog: ‘book lovers go swimming in the Arctic’ Me: Alright I’m ready, let’s do this!
Aaaah this post Lauren, is so useful and informative. I don’t know if I’ll ever join your book club because wow, it’s fast paced and I’d probably drown in there. BUT I’m intrigued about Blogs and Tea – also love all your roles you have in your book club :)
thank you for the lovely comment Clo, of course you’re welcome to stop by Blogs & Tea whenever you want. I’m hoping to finish up a post for that similar to this one in a week or so!
Ahhh this post is making me so guilty. I have been part of the Discord channel but I have never got to doing a read-a-long with you all. I will have to change that right?
