Browsing Bloggers Bookshelves | Jenny @ Tecsielity

bbsBrowsing Bloggers Bookhselves | Tecsielity

Jenny has been a great friend of mine for the past three years or so. You’re about to browse her bookshelves with me and you’ll see just how much of an influence I’ve had on her in this time too! I’m also thrilled to say this is the second post on the trot where I’ve got to praise her because yesterday I congratulated her becoming the official artist for Book Hooked Box. Stop by her blog now to see her opinions on my shelves (and the next time someone does this they’ll have updated photographs of my shelves too wow).

Want to know how to take part?

We’ll share photographs of our (main) bookshelves with each other so the other person can “browse” them and pick out books they’d recommend, books they suggest to avoid, or books they’d love to read.

I’ve loved doing this and can’t wait to do more but please contact via Twitter DMs or emails. I do have a list of these ready so do anticipate it being a post to schedule for the future if you reach out. Unfortunately if you only reply to a tweet I’m more likely to lose it in the notifications, which I know has happened and I’m trying my best to go and find them…

Jenny’s Bookshelves

As I’ve said in my previous post I wont touch on any books I’ve already talked about a lot. I love tecsies shelves because they’re very her and also I’m super thankful her collection is small because I am a tired bean who is working some over time this week so blogging isn’t the priority for once.

I’ll use these emoji’s as a code:
πŸ“š – books to add to my tbr | πŸ“– – read and recommend | πŸ’” – do not recommend

In this first image I gotta point out the lil frog card and the fairy lights are from me. Maybe even a book or two but we’ll get to those ;)
πŸ“–Love Simon by Becky Albertelli [purchase]
The one and only contemporary I’ll actually recommend to people because even though I have a small hang up with it, it hooked me enough to read it in 1 weekend. Also I sent this book to Jenny.

πŸ“šNorse Mythology by Neil Gaiman [purchase] & Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel [purchase]
I love the covers for both these books. I actually own the first one but haven’t read it and SG is one I keep meaning to pick up but my TBR is so long…

πŸ’”Outlander by Diana Habaldon
At great heartbreak to Jenny I didn’t finish Outlander, it simply wasn’t for me. However, that first copy of Outlander on her shelf that looks a lil battered is from me, and a few other friends, we passed it around for a year annotating it before it ended up as her Christmas present. So even though I wasn’t a fan (I read 100 pages) it ended up being a great present.

Other books from the above photo I sent were As Red As Blood as its a written by a Fin so it seemed fitting I send it back to Finland, Illuminae cause I had two copies, Undercover Princess because its soft and pink like Tecsie (sorry I’m swapping to her screen name now because its foreign to me to type Jenny(, and 4 other books too. I LIKE TO TREAT MY FRIENDS OK.
20190425_141341πŸ“–Snotgirl: Green Hair Don’t Care by Bryan Lee O’Malley [purchase]
I really loved Snotgirl, it reminds me a lot of Perfect Blue. Also the art is gorgeous in this one.

πŸ“šBygone Baddass Broads by Mackenzi Lee [purchase]
This is one of those beautifully composed non-fiction books that I’d love to pick up and flick through but not own. I love the idea of looking at 52 remarkable women.

πŸ’”The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa
I finished this book and annotated it fully for a travelling book project with Tecsie and I have very odd feelings towards it. I really liked the main storyline and the theory crafting it allowed me to do, however it was just a bit too pervy for me in some areas. Its the first (I think?) Light Novel I’ve read but I’d like to try more, translation is something to get around too.

Hi yes, staying on theme. I got a personalised signed copy of Bubblegum for her, and I also had to buy Time Travel Romance because it made me giggle and some of the stories are set in Scotland which is on theme for Outlander-vibes.

20190425_141415I’ve saved my favourite shelf for last cause every single book here IΒ  have either read and loved or I want to read. Okay, maybe not every single one but a hecking lot of them.

πŸ“–State of Sorrow | The Bone Witch Trilogy | Forest of a Thousand Lanterns | Girls of Paper and Fire | Spinning Silver
Ok so with these spines I can’t read most of them but lets be real I’m always going to recommend and read graphic novels, they’re a great palette cleaner and people need to give them a try more often. I also love that it seems we have different publisher preferences for GN but I did used to read a lot of MARVEL too.

πŸ“šThese Rebel Waves | Undead Girl Gang | Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix | The Language of Thorns
& these are the few I still have to read. I don’t yet own a copy of UGG which I’m actually really sad about because it sounds like my cuppa tea.

&Β  another Browsing Bloggers Bookshelf post is done. I have one more planned at the moment so I’m pretty free to try and organise some more and somehow the two I’m posting this month are some of my closests friends which is super.

Did I skip over any of your favourite books?

Which of these books would you recommend?

  1. Some really great books on these shelves! I think my most wanted on these shelves is probably The Bone Witch or Children of Blood and Bone. I loved the whole Song of Ice and Fire series and Daughter of Smoke and Bone was AMAZING

  2. So many books! Haha and it’s great that you like to treat your friends! I want to read Outlander but I don’t know how I’ll like it, and I love her shelves, they’re so full of awesome books!

  3. Sadly, Outlander was not for me either! I am spying that Paige Toon though, I’d like to give her work a try as I’m on a β€œchick lit” kick currently πŸ‘€

  4. I really love this series Lauren! I’ve watched the TV show but I’ve never got around to reading Outlander but it’s such a lovely gift that you’ve all given there!

  5. I love how each addition to this series is so different! Norse Mythology is definitely a book I’ve been meaning to pick up for a long time and never got around to doing.

  6. I like this! I had never heard of browsing another blogger’s bookshelf before. Sounds fun.

I actually had not read many of those books before. I was thinking about even reading the Love, Simon one once, but I never got around to getting it.
