Hey guys, today I have a new kind of post ready for you today.

Shortly after I broke my wrist I put a call out to guest post with other bloggers more and one of the lovely people who reached out was Sarah @BookHookedNook. After a bit of talking we decided upon a collab kind of post, whixh is this lovely thing you’re reading.

We shared photographs of our (main) bookshelves with each other so the other person could “browse” them and pick out books they’d recommend, books they suggest to avoid, or books they’d love to read.

As I really enjoyed this process if anyone would like to partner up witth me and do these posts together feel free to contact me. I’m best replying via Twitter DMs or emails.

Sarah’s Bookshelves

So lets get started shall we! Here is Sarah first two shelves, already I see a few that I’ve read and would recommend to you, the reader, but I feel like Sarah has read them already. Also a very nice handful that I want to read myself.

I’ll use these emoji’s as a code:
๐Ÿ“š โ€“ books to add to my tbr | ๐Ÿ“– โ€“ read and recommend | ๐Ÿ’” โ€“ do not recommend
8CsRvlui
๐Ÿ“– The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill [purchase] & To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo [purchase]
Two lovely Mermaid books that I love dearly and have now placed on my own mermaid and witch themed shelf. I’ve met both of the authors too and they’re such sweethearts!

๐Ÿ“š The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo [purchase] & City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab [purchase] & Roar by Cora Cormack [purchase]
I actually do own all of these books but I’ve not read them because I’m trash. Yes throw me in the corner of shame… I will read these one day. You can hold me to this.

๐Ÿ“–ย Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik [purchase] & Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao [purchase] & Everless by Sara Holland [purchase]
Three more books I adore! Both Forest and Everless are duologies .

ย ๐Ÿ’”The Witches Kiss trilogy by Katherine & Elizabeth Corr
I uh I heard how book three ended and I’m not here for that kind of ending. I read a 800 page book similar to that once and 100% will never be down for three books to do that too me.

๐Ÿ’”ย Tyrelle trilogy by Amanda Hocking
Okay so I have actually read the first book in the series and parts of me still wants to return and try the rest but also like very little happens in the first book. Its the very last, I dunno, 40 pages where things pick up. So this is less of a don’t read this but more of a be warned its a slow start and it might pick up?

๐Ÿ“– State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury [purchase]
Yes yes yes! Read this book. I really enjoyed the pacing of this book and how it deals with grief and addiction. I’ll be starting the sequel soon, I promise!

๐Ÿ“š Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin [purchase] & The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen [purchase] & The Diviners by Libba Bray [purchase]
Of these I only own Spare and Found Parts whic I’ve been dying to read since I met Sarah but apparently I’m still the trash I previously owned up to be. The other two I’m dying to read but I hate the paperback cover of Queen and I’m just slow on picking up more Bray books as I’m still reading The Sweet Farting.

wVH3E_L2๐Ÿ“– Uprooted by Naomi Novik [purchase]
If you hadn’t gathered I am a huge fan of Novik’s work and I’d love to dive into her series some day, my only complaint for this book is that it could’ve been gay.

๐Ÿ“š Renegades by Marissa Meyer [purchase] & Wintersong by S. Jae Jones [purchase]
Sarah is gonna kill me but yes I haven’t read Renegades. I’m sorrry okay. I do intend to read it thin month with my book club though. Wintersong only recently came onto my radar but I love the sound of it, read it and tell me how great it is thanks.

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“š

& thats it! I tried to keep it pretty short as I realised there was a good handful of books that I wanted to include and y’know I’m still one handed. The books that I’ve reviewed I placed the reviews as the book titles instead of the Goodreads page so you could further read my thoughts on why I liked them.

Did I skip over any of your favourite books?

Which of these books would you recommend?

  1. What a fun idea! :) From Sarah’s shelves, I’d recommend The Exact Opposite of Okay, it’s an amazing read!

  2. This is such a cool idea!! I would love to do this kind of post with you <3 I'll DM you later ;). Alright, back to the post, I was super excited about The Surface Breaks since it was hyped as a feminist book, but I found it pretty lacking. Overall it was still a nice book and I love The Little Mermaids retelling so I would still recommend it because of that, but not as a feminist-ish book. I'm very excited about Libba Bray's books though! I've seen them so much on bookstagram and I'm super curious now.

'my only complaint for this book is that it couldโ€™ve been gay.' I love you Lauren <3 ooooh Wintersong is great! Confusing at times, but that might just be the use of language! I do recommend that one :)

I personally really loved The Last Namsara, strong female lead, dragons, mystery, a bit of drama, a hidden past, who doesn't love that?!

    1. for me, it felt like a feminist read for a youngeraduience even tho it covers v heavy topics ? but yes i love merm books tbh

WELL IT COULDVE BEEN GAY OK and most of my book club agree. i like to preface that book w that bc i spent the whole time reading it like but when will they kiss????

i have last namsara so i will try and read it soon

      1. Yeah I guess when you say for younger readers I can get into that.. I just hoped she would get the ‘break away from abusive father’ sooner I guess. I’m reading To Kill a Kingdom now so I’m very curious to see how that’ll go

Oooh but wasn’t it very disappointing when it ended up not being gay? That you close the book with a ‘was this it?’ :( that sucks

  3. I feel like I’ve been living under a cardboard box for the past 8 years or so and have not heard of so many of these but I really really really want to look at some more mermaid books so thank you for this post and showing off so many great sounding books

  4. So Iโ€™ve not read any of the book youโ€™ve mentioned ๐Ÿ˜‚ I did spot Anna Dressed in Blood, which I read quite some years ago but remember loving! ๐Ÿ’•

  5. Ah, Sarah’s shelves are so pretty!
I have not had the time to read Renegades yet either, but I hope I am able to soon! I hope that you love the book xx
    Great post!

  6. this is such a fun idea! I would love to join in, but my “bookshelf” is currently a stack of about five review copies, because the vast majority of my collection is back at home ๐Ÿ˜…

all the matched sets make my aesthetic-fiending heart so happy, and I have yet to read most of the books you pointed out – so many of them are already on my TBR though ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. What neat shelves! Mine are such a mess. I have very mixed feelings on the queen of teraling series, but the diviners is FAANTASTIC
