Books and Tea Book Club | 2019 Series + January Read-alongs
Happy 2019 guys, we’re starting off the year with lots of choices for the Book Club! We not only have our regular monthly read-along themed around “We can’t believe we’ve not read it yet”. But we also launched 2 full series read-alongs for the full year.

I know, I simply like to keep everyone busy with good books!

At the start of each year we pick a series to read throughout. Usually we would vote on it however this year I went ahead and picked two – one for selfish reasons and the other due to popular demand as it kept coming close in read-along votes.

The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin is made up of The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky. This the read-along due to popular demand and I’m hoping later on this year I can pick up a copy for myself.

The selfish read-along simply because I want too is the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Look its been years and this is one of the series that got me back into reading so I want to re-read it due to nostalgia and with a more critical look on it. Oh yeah, when I say full series I mean full; Twilight, Midnight Sun, New Moon, Eclipse, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, Breaking Dawn, Life and Death: Twilight, and all the movies.

So onto our monthly read-along right?

I gave Books and Tea members the theme of “Wow, I Can’t Believe We Haven’t Read This Yet” and there were a lot of suggestions that caught my interest. The winning book though was Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Which luckily I do already own so maybe, just maybe, I’ll fit this in this month too!

I will be writing up an updated Chat Overview for this year but here is last years post should you want to know more about the Book Club. I hope at least one of these books interest you, if not we’re also taking suggestions for February’s Read-along of “Lesser Known Books” until mid-week. Then I’ll get a poll up next weekend for people to vote on their favourite choice.

Even if none of these books take your interest we’re always around to talk all things bookish and blog related so feel free to stop by.
What books with less than 5,000 ratings on Goodreads would you recommend for February?

  1. I REALLY want to reread Twilight sometime. I’m not sure that I can get through the whole series a second time, but the first book held such a special place in my heart when I was 13 and got me reading. I’d love to see how I felt about it as an adult.

  2. This sounds like a fun read-along! I am with you on the full Twilight series re-read. It has been ages since I’ve read them and watched the movies. I didn’t even get around to reading Life and Death because I wanted to reread the full series. Good luck!

  3. I would definitely be interested in joining up with the Broken Earth Trilogy readalong, I had planned on reading that series this year anyway and would love to have some buddies to discuss it with throughout.

  4. I started the Broken Earth trilogy last year (we read the first book for my work book club), but I never got to the second two books! A read along for that would be lovely because it is so complex.

  5. I reread Twilight every single year and I am going to be reading it again this year! Though I sometimes skip the Bree Tanner book, but not all the time. I’ve never read Life and Death and don’t intend to though… I love the movies, rewatch them all the time :P
