2019 Reading Goals | Bookending Winter

BKW RGReading Goals for the New Year | Setting out a plan for what you’d like to read in 2019
For my final day hosting Bookending Winter I’ve given us the chance to set out some goals we’d like to achieve next year when reading. I picked this for two reasons; one that I never made any goals for 2018 and two, we’ve all just shared recommendations so maybe you want to pick up something another blogger shared.

If you’ve written your own post for this prompt please feel free to leave a link in the comments so myself and others can see your Fireside Favourites! Alternatively you can tag me on twitter.

For this post I will just be focusing on reading and bookish goals but if you want to add in some blogging goals too feel free.

The last time I made a year TBR pile it didn’t go well at all. For me when I make a TBR list I end up ignoring it totally so instead I’m going to be a bit more cryptic with these goals.

To start with I would like to make progress or finish some series, including but not limited too:

๐Ÿ”ฎ Saga by Brian K. Vaughan (8/9)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Paper Girls Series by Brian K. Vaughan (3/5)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Unwind Dystology by Neal Shusterman (1/4)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Monsters of Verity Duology by Victoria Schwab (1/2)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Shades of Magic Series by Victoria Schwab (1/3)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Replica Duology by Lauren Oliver (1/2)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Snotgirl Series by Bryan Lee O’Malley (1/2)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas (5/7)
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Giver Series by Lois Lowry (1/4)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Rebel of the Sands Series by Alwynn Hamilton (1/3)
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Seafarer’s Kiss Series by Julia Ember (1/2)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Rise of the Empress Series by Julie C. Dao (1/2)
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Folk of the Air Series by Holly Black (1/3)
๐Ÿ”ฎ Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray (2/3)

20181127_130905I would also like to attempt to finish books that I’ve been “currently reading” for a while, books that I’ve left with bookmarks in for no reason. At the time of writing these books include:

๐Ÿ”ฎ Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
๐Ÿ”ฎ Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
๐Ÿ”ฎ Wicca by Harmony Nice
๐Ÿ”ฎ Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
๐Ÿ”ฎ Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
๐Ÿ”ฎ Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
๐Ÿ”ฎ Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke
๐Ÿ”ฎ Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer

I also own a lot of books that realistially I should’ve read by now and I’m suprised I haven’t so to name a few that I wish I had already read:

๐Ÿ”ฎ Vicious and Vengeful by V.E. Schwab
๐Ÿ”ฎ And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
๐Ÿ”ฎ Wunderkids by Jacqueline Silverster
๐Ÿ”ฎ The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
๐Ÿ”ฎ Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin

20181127_124628Ideally I’d also like to get on top of my review copies, and with the help of Kal’s spreadsheet I do think this might be possible.

At the moment I think I have recieved 59 books for review this year and I’ve already read 37 of them! So do this successfully I need to finished sorting through my books, filling in the spreadsheet, and be a bit more organised.

For other bookish goals I’d like to set my Goodreads goal to 30 books again as that was a pretty successful and stress-free way to read this year as I easily hit that.

I’d also like to seriously cut down on the amount of books I get. I’m going to do better at tracking what comes into my house and keeping track of what I’ve spent in a way to influence me to buy less; again Kal’s spreadsheet is going to help here.

I’ve already made a start on tidying my physical shelves but I need to finish tidying my shelves and move onto unhauling those that are on my unhauled shelf downstairs. Perhaps a blog post about this shelf will be handy to help people know what I’m ready to part with?

So thats it for now, hopefully these were vague enough and gave me enough room so I don’t feel too restricted with what I plan to read!

  1. Good luck! I will admire you if you succeed because…I always end up buying more than I can read! And each time I swear is the last..

  2. 2019 is going to be blessed because of Kal’s spreadsheet. lol. And I too seriously need to start on Vicious and Vengeful aswell. oof. A time it will be. lol. Great post Lauren! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HOSTING!!! YOU ARE AHHHHMMMAAAZZZINNNNGGGGG <3

    1. right?! i’ve linked it in so many posts now because it is amazing .
i really wish i had the time to pick them up now because i am very excited.
no worries my love, glad you enjoyed it :)

  3. Oooh lovely goals! I think I managed to achieve almost all of mine this year which I’m really pleased about. I need to find an easier way of keeping track of the goals I set myself though because my posts just get lost into my blog ether :’) Also congrats on doing your 2019 goals so early, I’ve scheduled mine for the last possible minute at the end of December

    1. ah thankyou! :) i made 0 for 2018 and did feel a bit lost no tbeing able to check in.

haha only did them so early bc i needed to come up with 3 prompts for these days and this was something i wanted to do

  4. I love having a manageable target and over achieve when it comes to that. I love Kal’s sheet too. You have a great week ahead!

  5. I want to read Vicious and Vengeful too! It’s on my wishlist all year. You should totally read The Hazel Wood! I really liked it :D And yeah, organizing makes it so much more stress-free to read, but haha, it does take a lot of work and consistency which I, unfortunately, always run away from XD Though, new year new me is what I’m hoping for. I recently read Scythe and loved it so much, now after seeing the Unwind Dystology making it to your list, I’m gonna try reading them too. Great post, Lauren! <3

  6. oh wow, LOTS of series … somes have so many books on it.. errh xD Thanksfully I only ever started two ; which im waiting for the next tome to come in both of them AHAH ๐Ÿ˜‚
I don’t have any “currently read” to continue ? apart maybe two of them, but at this point im just gonna start over because HELL I wont remember a thing, and it was still in the early stage of me struggling to get back to reading.
However, Holy how I do have LOTS of “i should start” … *aerm*. but to my pride all my review copy has been done and reviewed ! Okay, except one. but the puclisher was happy with me just doing a post and said “you dont even need to post a review if you dont want to”. which YAS, I’d take it ๐Ÿ˜† Release some stress out of me.

This also reminds me … I never linked to this one on my own post when I did your prompt. OOPS! It wasn’t out when I wrote it and yeeeeah, I forgot x) I’ll fix that now, sorry Lauren !
