Books and Tea Book Club | October Events
Hi guys, I’m checking in again to let y’all know the variety of things we have happening throughout October. If you want a full run down on what my Book Club has to offer please visit this post.

This is a special post as I’ll go into lots of detail about our Horror Read-a-thon “SpooksandTea” – this will be our third year running it!

Our events in September was the the read-along for Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas!

As I wasn’t particularly interested and still struggling with the last classic we read together I opted out of Brave New World but there was a lot of members who did take part and said they really enjoyed it.

Now on too the Good Stuff!

The theme for the read-along this month is “Magic Month” to paid nicely with our Spooks and Tea read-a-thon. Its a good second choice for those who don’t want to read something spooky.

There we so many great suggestions put forward that I allowed the poll to have more than 10 books on it for once to see how that worked out. I had a feeling that one of three books would win and actually the one I was most excited to read did win. Woo!

So everyone should go and grab their copies of A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab!

But our main event is #SpooksandTea! I wrote a few posts about it last year so this year I want to announce it properly. Spooks and Tea is a month long read-a-thon where you consume as much horror as possible.

My lovely GF Allie has compiled a list of our recommendations on her own blog here so I suggest checking those out for inspiration. She also created the banner we’re using this year!

As part of the Read-a-thon I’ve also reached out to some horror authors for them to take part, so far I have 2 who will be doing guest posts here – that’ll be shared first with the book club. As well as Tim Lebbon, Rhiannon Frater, and Rin Chupeco doing a Q+A with us! I can’t explain how excited I am about this – just know I cried a lot with joy. I’m honestly so thankful that these authors have taken time out of their day for us.

I’ll have a post up dedicated to some of these channels throughout October but here is a quick run down:
#SpooksandTea – Prep: here we give recommendations for spooky things to be added to Allie’s recommendation page
#SpookandTea – Main: a general chat to talk about all things spooky
#Coven Goals: what do you want to achieve throughout the read-a-thon?
#Grimoire Notes: share your thoughts whilst reading your book or mini/full reviews of the books you finish
#Ritual Tasks: we’ve compiled a list of themed goals to inspire what books you pick up
#Spell List: its book spine poetry but spooky themed
So if any of these books spark your interest and you want to discuss them with others who are reading, please feel free to join.
Have you read any of it, if so what did you think?

  1. I’ve read most of A Darker Shade of Magic. I just need to push myself to read those last few chapters. There always seems to be something that gets in the way. ^^; I want to finish the series, though I don’t think that’s going to happen before the end of the year.

From the recommendation list: Trigger Warning definitely has some spooky stories in it! I read it when it first came out and there are some truly spine tingling tales within.

  2. I’ll try to participate as much as I can; I don’t particularly go for horror.. but I have a bit on my tbr this month and i’m planning to start creepy pastas reviews on my blog !
I haven’t read a darker shade of magic yet, but it doesn’t particularly attracts to me right now..
