Books and Tea Book Club | June Read-along
Back at it again with the update on next months read-along? You bet I am. If you want a full run down on what my Book Club has to offer please visit this post. Yes, I finally created a new one!
Want to know whats happening within the Book Club in June? Keep reading for an update.
Mays theme was Own Voices as last time we had this theme everyone loved it!
The winning book was Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao, which I think was perfect given that I did a giveaway for this book for the book club earlier on. Wild coincidence.
The chat for this book will remain open for another month to allow people to read at their own speed as we know people have busy lives, so if you’re late to the party you can still join the book club you can here.
For June’s theme we got members to submit Science Fiction or Fantasy recommendations that had LGBT themes or charcter seeing as though June is LGBT Pride Month!
We introduced a new voting system which allowed members to rank the books that were nominated which allowed us to get a more accurate judge of which book people wanted and avoid us having to do a second vote.
And not suprisingly the amazing The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller won! Heh, I usually take a guess at the book that’ll win with the staff and I was pretty sure this would be the one.
I know a lot of people are really excited about the book, especially thanks to her new release a lot of people are going back to read this too so if you’re one of those people or maybe you just really want to read the book then come and say hi.
We have a dedicated chat to the book so you can discuss it with other members, and avoid spoiling those who aren’t taking part.
We are also having a Summer Swap in June – sign ups are open for it now.
(What is a Summer Swap? Its like Secret Santa but during Summer)
As mentioned at the start of the year, the 2018 Series Read-along of His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman is still going forward. I’ll have this chat open for the year so people can dip into the series when they’re able. As for me… I have actually read the first book now! I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this series when I read it years ago.

I’ve been wanting to read Forest of a Thousand Lanterns for quite some time now, but still haven’t gotten around to it. And Song of Achilles is a clear winner–I’ve been seeing it around just about everywhere! I hope you enjoy, Lauren. :)
