Books and Tea Book Club | January Read-along
I actually haven’t advertised the read-alongs we host on Books and Tea here in detail before. I have the original post with a huge run down on what we offer but aside from that? Not much.
So here goes, there are 3 read-alongs starting in January and I’m excited!
For January’s theme I picked Middle Grade / Children’s books so we could start of with something fairly easy and quick in the New Year.
Members of the book club submitted books they’d like us to consider reading and I narrowed the list down for a vote. I have to do this as we get a lot of submissions, but also because a lot that were linked were YA and I figured I should y’know stick to theme as best as possible.
The selected books for the vote were:
It was fun to watch the voting happen and instantly we saw a few that were going to be close. After 2 weeks its clear we had two contenders so I let the members know how close it was and they had 24 hours to help a clear winner appear.
However, it only tied the vote more.
So here goes our two themed winning read-alongs we’re hosting in January.
If you’re interested in reading either Beyond the Deepwoods or Comet in Moominland feel free to stop by the discord chat and sign up.
We have a dedicated chat to each book so you can discuss it with other members.
But Lauren, I thought you said there are 3 read-alongs starting in January?
Well my lovely reader, you’re right I did.
I’d been toying with the idea of hosting another series read-along (previously we’ve done The Raven Cycle and the Ice Massacre trilogy) and due to a lot of interest I ended up selecting another.
His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman!

Read neither, but I am so excited for the His Dark Materials read-a-long!! <3
I don’t do readalongs because it’s hard to read a book according to set rules but I haven’t read His Dark Materials so I may sign up for that.
This is why I don’t do readalongs because I can’t stick to timed rules.
which is one of the reasons I host them. at the moment i haven’t set any kind of time for the His Dark Materials readalong as I’ll see how the chat is moving along.
With my monthly ones I set it for the month but keep the chat open for 2 months to allow for slower readers and further discussion. i do not set page or day goals to allow for members to read at their own pace and generally tell people to not be too spoilery in chat :)
That sounds really good. Thanks for the info.
